Strategic Planning

Your strategic plan is the key to connecting your customer needs to the work being performed in your organization. A good strategic plan will focus your efforts on your customers' requirements ensuring that everything you do will increase your value to your customers.

MISSION

  • Describes the nature and concept of an organization’s future business, providing a common vision for the total organization
  • Serves as a guide, a clear statement of direction, or "big picture" for an organization

GOALS

  • General statements of what you will do to achieve the mission
  • More specific than the mission, yet still quite broad in scope
  • Qualitative in nature—helps people visualize the mission 
  • A number of goals will feed into the mission statement 

OBJECTIVES

  • The most specific statement used, and must fit with the stated goals and mission
  • Quantifiable and measurable statements that are more specific than goals in indicating how much, by when, etc.
  • Stated so that there can be no disagreement as to whether or not each objective is met

STRATEGIES

  • Strategies define how you intend to accomplish objectives
  • Typically, many different strategies could be used to accomplish an objective—consider them all, but choose the best alternatives for your situation
